At St Mary's we aim to ensure that all pupils leave St Mary's as established readers who are competent, fluent readers that read for pleasure on a regular basis.
From bottom up:
- The first layer shows what all children at St Mary's have access to through the teaching of reading and home learning applications.
- The second layer shows support pupils that require extra support to close the reading gap have access to. These range from in class to out of class support. Discussions with class teachers ensure that pupils receive the intervention that is most suited to the areas of reading that require further development.
- The third layer is for pupils that have accessed a range of support within the second layer and are not making the progress we would like to see them making. In this instance, the support is through the Switch On Reading and Writing Programme on a 1-1 basis. Here pupils receive daily sessions.
