NURSERY NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents/Carers,
Hello from Mrs Farrell
First of all I would just like to say a big hello to all of the parents and families of children involved in the nursery. I am a new teacher to St Mary’s this year and have taken on the role of nursery teacher after finishing maternity leave with my first baby. Before St Mary’s, I worked for 5 years as a teacher at St Joseph’s RC primary in Reddish. I am really enjoying my time so far at St Mary’s. The children and the staff have made me feel very welcome and I am excited for the school year ahead.
Welcome!
Welcome to all the children who have started with us so far. They have settled in beautifully and we are really enjoying getting to know the children.
Half Term Topic
All About Me– This half term we are linking our learning with the theme of All About Me.
This half term, we are focussing on settling the children into nursery and allowing them to become familiar, happy and comfortable in our environment. We have many areas set up both inside and outside for the children to play with and explore!
Literacy
We are immersing the children in lots of lovely stories every day, such as Dear Zoo and Funnybones and are encouraging them to join in with repeated refrains and also to try to say why they like a story.
Maths
We are reading fun stories with numbers in, singing number songs and practising showing the numbers 1-5 on our fingers.
Phonics
We are learning our special ‘Name Song’ and joining in with many nursery rhymes.
RE
We are learning how to do the sign of the cross and say our prayers. We are also talking about using kind hands and always being caring and gentle to one another.
Reminders
May I remind parents that all children’s uniform, including shoes, and belongings such as coats, lunchboxes and bags need to be clearly labelled. We would ask if all children keep in school a change of clothes bag containing underwear and spare trousers/skirt/socks.
With autumn approaching, we would like children to keep a pair of wellies in nursery as we spend so much time outdoors!
If your child is having a school meal, the cost is £2.20 per day and can be brought in, in a labelled envelope, on a Monday morning.
Jobs for you at home
We have tidy up time several times a day. The children will each be given a specific job. Please give your child a tidy up job at home to help them practise, e.g. tidy the cushions on the sofa before bedtime, or sweep the kitchen floor, or put the table mats away after dinner.
Optional homework ideas linked to our topic
Make a sandwich
Draw a face (practising closed circles for head and eyes)
Write your child’s first name
Sing nursery rhymes
Read stories together
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. You can see me each am and pm, before and after school, or contact the school office leaving a message and your name and number (01612245995).
Many thanks for your support,
Mrs Farrell and the Nursery Team
