Welcome to Class 3/4MN


STAFF:- Mr McAndrew and Mrs Barda-Singh 











This will take place weekly on Tuesday and Thursday.


On Tuesdays we will be inside using the hall, therefore indoor kit can be worn:

  1. White shirt
  2. Navy Blue shorts
  3. Trainers


ALL children should come to school dressed in their PE kit and remain in this all day.


On Thursdays the YEAR 3 CHILDREN ONLY will be swimming.


Year 4 children will be outdoors during their PE lesson on Thursdays. They should come dressed in their PE kit which will include:

  1. White shirt
  2. Navy Blue shorts (plain, navy tracksuit bottoms weather dependent)
  3. Trainers
  4. School jumper/plain, navy jumper
  5. Suitable waterproof jacket (weather dependent)


Year 3 children should come into school in their school uniform and bring their swimming kit with them in a suitable bag. This should include:

  1. Costume
  2. Towel
  3. Swimming cap (long hair)




  • One-piece swimming costume – no bikinis*
  • A swimming hat is required to be worn if the hair covers the eyes or airways
  • A towel

* Please note that in order for your child to benefit from the swimming lessons appropriate aquatic clothing must be worn. Should your children wish to wear items of clothing that cover up parts of the body, there are specific aquatic clothing designed for this purpose. Cotton leggings are detrimental to teaching and are a risk to health and safety.



  • A pair of traditional swimming trunks
  • A swimming hat is required to be worn if the hair covers the eyes or airways
  • A towel 


No Bermuda or long shorts are allowed, as these can be dangerous - for reasons of safety the swimwear should be sufficiently tight fitting to allow the freedom of body and limb movement without causing unsafe water resistance.  


Jewellery of any description should not be worn in the School Swimming lesson.  It is important that earrings in particular are removed.


Goggles are only permitted for medical reasons.  Parents must produce a letter from either a Doctor or Optician to state that your child has a medical condition and is required to wear goggles in the school swimming lesson. 


Home learning:


Home learning is essential if your child is to achieve all that they are capable of. Each week, there will be activities set for your child to complete using different online platforms. If, for any reason, your child is unable to complete their home learning at home that week, please let me know before the end of the week and arrangements can be made to support your child to complete it.


SPELLINGS - Weekly spellings are set on Spelling Shed. Children should learn these and understand the spelling rule and they will be tested on them on a Friday.




READING EGGS - It is vital that your child reads regularly each night and has an opportunity to practice their comprehension skills in order to support their progress in reading. Children should be aiming to complete a step on their own reading map each week, this is identified by the lesson quiz and the end. Children may also use this platform to access an electronic library of books. There is a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction material for them to read for pleasure.


MY MATHS - Where suitable, activities will be set for children to support them with their maths learning taking place in the classroom that week. Children will be notified when these have been uploaded to be completed.




TIMESTABLES ROCKSTARS - Children should be aiming to practice their multiplication and division fact recall as often as possible. 5-10 minutes each day is ideal. Knowledge of these facts feeds into almost all other mathematical units we cover throughout the year. Short, frequent practice can be the most useful to support your child with progress in maths. 








This term we will be exploring the themes of Pentecost, reconciliation and special places. We will also explore Caritas topics including thinking about the dignity of work and caring for God's creation.​ We will be taking part in weekly collective worships as part of our ongoing journey within our faith.





In English we will be developing our reading, writing, spellings and grammar skills through a range of fiction writing and non-fiction opportunities - The focus this half term will be on strengthening our writing through character descriptions, narratives and exploring poetry ready for the Poetry Cafe in Spring 2. Our class read for this half term will be The BFG. 



Guided reading sessions, whole class reading sessions and our daily class read will enable children to develop their reading skills and comprehension alongside an ever growing love of reading. 


Reading at home

We encourage parents to read with their child for 30 mins every night. This can be a school book or a book from home. 

Reading Records should be signed daily and brought in everyday for a member of staff to sign and change the book where necessary. 



At the beginning of this term we will start by exploring the topic of money, finding change in real life situations and adding and subtracting amounts of money. We will then move onto telling the time to the minute for Year 3's and using the 24 hour clock for Year 4. After this, we will explore shapes and statistics. 


Keep learning your times tables - You should know your 2s, 5s and 10s from Year 2,  3s, 4s and 8s from Year 3 and Year 4 will focus on the rest of the tables, up to the 12 Times Table.  Year 4 will be completing a Times Tables Check at the start of Summer 2!


Practise your times tables everyday by logging onto Times Tables Rockstars and working on the battles and completing soundchecks regularly!



This term we will be exploring animals including humans, looking at the skeletal structure of a variety of animals as well as the nutrients that animals need in order to survive. 




In Topic we will be focusing on our local area of Manchester and Levenshulme. We will be carrying out different aspects of field work linked to the physical and human geography of our area and learning about the history of Levenshulme. 



Throughout the summer term we will be looking at the module 'Created to Live in Community'. Created to Live in Community explores the individual’s relationship with the wider world. Here we explore how human beings are relational by nature and are called to love others in the wider community through service, through dialogue and through working for the Common Good. For any further information please see the TenTen parent portal.
