Welcome back to another school year at St Mary’s! I hope you all had a wonderful Summer and are looking forward to a successful new academic year.
This letter contains some important information about what will be happening this term.
In Topic the theme for our work is the Mayan Civilisation, our Science topic will be Properties of Materials and in RE we will be learning about the Domestic Church. Each week we will be having two PE lessons, indoor PE is on Monday and outdoor PE is on Wednesday (full PE kit must be in school on these days).
As St Mary’s is a healthy school we ask the children that they bring water to school in a sealable bottle clearly labelled with their name. If children bring in a different drink they will be asked to put it in their locker to take home. We also encourage children to bring fruit in for their morning snack.
Children will have reading books throughout the year. Although there will be many opportunities to read in class and across the curriculum, children make much better progress when they practice the skills they learn in class at home. All children should read to an adult when possible and be reading independently every night, they should fill in their reading records and have it signed. In addition to this, the children will be encouraged to complete accelerated reader tests every time they complete a book.
Learning log homework is expected in school every Friday, we expect at least one high quality piece of work each week (see prompts below) and spellings test will take place each Monday (children have a copy of the spellings for the term stuck into their reading record).
If you have anything you wish to discuss with me, please do not hesitate in making an appointment to see me at the office.
Thank you for your support,
